Thank you for wanting to adopt a rescue dog!
Our process is easy and straightforward:

Once you have identified a dog you may want to adopt, please fill out and submit the Dog Adoption Application.

Misfit Mutts will review your application and forward it to dog’s foster parent for review also. Note: All of our dogs are in volunteer foster homes. We do not have a physical facility. Our volunteer foster parents are the most qualified to determine the best possible home for the dog.

If your application is approved, the foster parent will contact you via phone or email to give you more information on the dog, learn more about your family and home, and answer any questions you have.

If the phone conversation goes well, the next step is a “meet & greet.” The foster parent will work with you to determine a date, time and place for you to meet the dog and continue learning about each other.

If the “meet & greet” goes well, the final step is a home visit, where the foster parent and another Misfit Mutts volunteer will bring the dog to your home to see where the dog will live, eat, sleep and hang out. They will also walk the backyard to ensure the fence and gates are secure with no chance of escape.

If the home visit goes well, the adoption is finalized with a signed Dog Adoption Contract and the adoption fee.

Misfit Mutts requires meeting all individuals — people and other animals — living in the home prior to adoption. If everyone living in the home cannot attend the initial “meet & greet,” they will be required to be present for the home visit.

Please note that we may receive several applications for the same dog. We do not respond on a first-come, first-served basis. We make every attempt to determine the best possible match for the dog and the family. The final decision rests with our foster parents, as they know the dogs the best, in consultation with other Misfit Mutts volunteers. We continue accepting applications on a dog until the adoption is finalized with the new adoptive family.
